Sharvari Deshpande

In my recent works, I have been drawn towards the form which resembles the idea of reading a book or seeing the film stills. They may reveal organized/unorganized stories to draw parallels among the images. But this simultaneity and multiplicity also create an abstract layer in our mind and therefore in these narrations. Through these layers, I try to respond to the psychological landscape of dreams, desires, horrors, and insecurities which inhabit the social landscape.

I try to locate the contradictions between ‘personification of the object’ and ‘objectification of a person’ in  ‘Untitled Dummy’. Here the dummy (the mannequin) takes place of an absent/ inexistent lover. Multiple entry points and non-linear narratives suggest the complexity of fragmented self.

‘Notes from the ‘ruled’ book’ has abstract and graphical narratives with metaphors suggesting, trembled/ shocked subjects making their way to respond to the ‘ruled’ pages. A similar diary is made with stretched and bent lines to create free spaces and voices.
