My drawings and sketches are my portal of expressing my extremely personal self and thoughts.
My dreams, unending thoughts, things I see on a daily basis, memories that I have with my family especially that of my mother are main happenings that make their way to my work. Everything that affects me and what it makes me feel or realise is what I portray/draw. Sometimes there are no thoughts, nothing that concerns me, so I simply start drawing portraits, smudge them and slowly in the process an image is formed.
Working with charcoal on a raw canvas or rice paper against textured surfaces is what gives birth to this prompt image, I let this process guide me sometimes. My drawings are mainly my immediate thoughts or emotions on how I feel or how something that’s happening around me affects me and how it fits into my conscious. Everything I draw has a certain level of affection and a whole lot of emotion, which is why I use charcoal. According to me it’s the most suitable medium for expressing emotions and spontaneity.
